150 YEARS OF HISTORY

Great beef starts with great breeding. The Shipley family has a long tradition of raising English breeds of cattle. W.E. Shipley pioneered Hereford farming in North Carolina, bringing the first registered stock to the state over 100 years ago.

Discover Premium Quality at Shipley Farms Beef — Your Local Butcher Near Boone

Looking for a local butcher near Boone? Shipley Farms Beef offers pasture-raised, hormone-free beef raised right here in the southern Appalachian Mountains. For over 150 years, Shipley Farms has been rooted in the agricultural fabric of North Carolina’s High Country.

A Legacy Built on Stewardship

The Shipley family’s commitment to quality began in 1872 when Nathan and Sarah Shipley acquired 115 acres of farmland in Vilas, North Carolina. They built a farming legacy passed through five generations. In 2013, at the age of 101, Robert G. Shipley, alongside his son and grandson, reintroduced beef production on the family land—this time offering direct access to premium beef for the local community.

Pasture-Raised, Hormone-Free Beef

At Shipley Farms, a trusted local butcher near Boone, cattle graze on clover-rich mountain pastures and are supplemented with a balanced, vegetable-based feed. The beef is dry-aged for optimal texture, marbling, and flavor. No added hormones. No steroids. Just clean, nutrient-dense beef from animals raised with care. This isn’t commodity feedlot meat—it’s real food from real land.

Our Story

Great beef starts with great breeding. The Shipley family has a long tradition of raising English breeds of cattle such as Hereford, Angus, South Devon, and Shorthorn – breeds that trace back to the British Isles, brought to America from England and Scotland in the 1800’s. W.E. Shipley pioneered Hereford farming in North Carolina, bringing the first registered stock to the state over 100 years ago. These English breeds aren’t the largest cattle, but are known for providing the best combination of meat quality (tenderness and marbling), efficiency (conversion of grass forage into muscle) ease of care (thriving in cooler climates and calving without assistance)
and disposition.

Shipley Farms is my choice. We share the same last name ,but are not related.I sent my brother ribeyes ; he said they were as good as any steak he has had and included photos. His photo is only one half of a tasty ribeye. Thank you Sydney for your delightful customer service.
